Malini Appalla
Executive Board, GrantsMalini is a Senior IT specialist with more than fifteen years of experience working at IBM. She brings this rich IT experience to Mayur as a recently nominated board member. She has been a dedicated adult student of Odissi dance for ten years and is also a parent of an equally dedicated student at Mayur Dance Academy. Both these roles help her in advising the company and in rendering ideas and guiding Mayur Dance Company in establishing a digital footprint. She is also very passionate about raising awareness and retaining love of Odissi dance in second generation Indian Americans.

Arunima Ghosh
Executive Board, GrantsArunima has been learning dance at Children’s Little Theater since age three. It was at CLT that she started training in Odissi under Guru Arundhati Roy and continued with her for next several years. She has also completed her Sangeet Prabhakar diploma in Odissi. She continues to train in Odissi with Guru Sukanya Mukherji and Mayur. She is also the founder member of “Shivas Dances International” in Cleveland and later “Ta Thoi” in Maryland. She is a Pathologist by profession, and manages the US sites for a global Bio-Bank company. She also serves as a Commissioner in the Commission of Aging, Montgomery County, and on the board of a non-profit that deals with Asian-American issues. Dance inspires, uplifts, and motivates her.

Paroma Sanyal
Executive BoardParoma Sanyal is an economist and senior consultant at The Brattle Group. Prior to joining Brattle, she was the Chief Economist at the US Federal Communications Commission’s Wireless Bureau, before which, she was an academic. Paroma is a founding member of Ta Thoi, a cultural organization in the DMV area focused on dance and social/ women’s issues. She is a student of Odissi and trains under Guru Sukanya Mukherji. Paroma is also a theater enthusiast and has performed in plays in India and here in the US.

Mishka Shreya Mukherji
Executive Board, Instructor, DancerMishka is a dancer and teacher at Mayur. She has performed with the Academy and the Company at all kinds of venues domestically and abroad over the last 25 years. At Mayur, Mishka loves teaching the endlessly enthusiastic students and helping to put together their performances; she also enjoys the challenge of choreography, especially to unconventional music. Mishka is interested in all genres and aspects of performance art and human expression. She has a background in theoretical linguistics, and works as a software developer in the field of educational technology.

Jayshree Murthy
Executive Board, WebsiteJayshree is the parent of a Mayur student. While her formal education did not include dance, she is drawn to the grace and tradition in the ancient dance form of Odissi. She is an unwavering supporter of the performing arts and believes in their ability to entertain, inspire, and provoke thought. She is an avid learner, with an interest in exploring new technologies, trends and advancements. She works as a programmer for a Science & Engineering services company.

Ishaan Mukherji
Technical ConsultantIshaan is a lifelong friend of Mayur, and a software engineer in Washington, DC. While he did perform in several shows as a child, his dancing has taken a back seat to helping with any technical or logistical challenges Mayur faces.

Riya Deb
Instructor, Content ManagerRiya has been a part of Mayur Dance Academy since 2006. Throughout her dance journey, she has performed in numerous shows in the DMV area and in India. After a brief teaching stint in college, Riya returned to teaching beginner classes and continues to find joy in sharing her love of Odissi with new students. She is especially drawn to the intricacies of Odissi choreography and enjoys the challenge of learning and interpreting new pieces. Outside the studio, Riya loves reading, hiking, and exploring the diverse culinary scene DC has to offer.
