Mayur Dance Company
Mayur Dance Company is a non-profit organization formed in 2006. The company has presented and staged many highly acclaimed shows for the past five years. Members of Mayur are dancers who have dedicated their time and effort to make dance a part of their future. Sukanya Mukherji is the Artistic Director of the company. She has spoken as a panelist at several prestigious dance festivals. Sukanya is an active member of the Indian Dance Educators′ Association (IDEA) in the Washington area.
Mayur has invited and presented artists like Ramli Ibrahim from Malaysia, and Sujata Mohapatra from Bhuvaneshwar. As a company they have performed extensively, at venues like the Smithsonian Institution and the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. They have also performed in cultural festivals in other cities across North America, like Toronto and New York. In 2006 they visited India to perform in the International Odissi Festival held in Bhuvaneshwar, Orissa and were featured in The Times of India for a performance to remember. They have been invited again this winter to perform in Bhuvaneshwar, Kolkata, and Singapore.
Mayur′s recent program at the Smithsonian on May 28th and 29th, 2011 was very well received.
